The Africa Maritime and Shipping Assembly — convening Africa's maritime community since 2019
From West Africa to the continent — 8 years of maritime dialogue
The Africa Maritime and Shipping Assembly (AfMASA) is the Africa highlight event of the prestigious London International Shipping Week (LISW). It is designed to foster intra-African trade through enhanced shipping and maritime cooperation.
Building on the success of the West Africa Shipping Assembly (WASA) — which ran since 2019 — AfMASA 2025 expanded its scope from West Africa to the entire African continent, reflecting the growing importance of Africa's maritime sector on the global stage.
AfMASA is organised by FairTrade Consulting, a leading Nigerian law firm specialising in shipping and maritime law, and a LISW sponsor.
The evolution from WASA to AfMASA
The inaugural edition, establishing the platform for West African maritime dialogue and cooperation. Held during London International Shipping Week.
Building on the foundation, expanding stakeholder engagement across the West African maritime sector with increased delegate participation.
Expanded to pan-African scope. Held at IMO Headquarters, London on 18 September 2025. Theme: "Bridging the Continent, Driving Intra-African Trade." Over 200 delegates, 22 countries represented. Two thematic sessions covering commercial shipping and regulatory harmonisation.
"From Policy to Prosperity: Regulation, Digitalisation & Investments" — the action platform for Africa's maritime future. Moving from agenda-setting to execution.
